There is no denying it, the Audi A4 is a stunning car. Beautiful, practical and great to drive. It doesn’t matter which model you own, whether it’s the Saloon, the Avant or the Quattro, you’ll have a hard time finding a better vehicle. However, like many modern diesel vehicles, the Audi A4 can suffer from the unfortunate DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) problem.
When the DPF is functioning correctly it can do wonders to reduce the harmful emissions from the exhaust of the vehicle and almost all modern eco-friendly diesels are fitted with one. However, what many drivers don’t realise is that in order to keep the DPF functioning correctly a certain driving style needs to be adopted.
The DPF works by filtering the exhaust fumes. As the fumes pass through the DPF, the gasses are able to pass through unhindered but the particulate matter (soot) is trapped by the filter and deposited on the filters porous walls. In order to stop the filter from becoming blocked by the build-up of soot, the DPF goes through a regeneration process once the soot reaches 45% capacity. This is when the ECU causes the DPF to heat up to extreme temperatures to burn off the soot deposits. However, for the regeneration process to work efficiently, it requires, that from time to time, the vehicle be driven at a high rev range for several miles on the motor way. Short city journeys just don’t cut it. Overtime repeated failed regenerations will cause the DPF to malfunction to the point where it needs to be replaced or removed.
Replacing a faulty DPF can be a very expensive option (approximately £1500) and may leave you open to the risk of facing the same problem again. On the other hand, having the DPF removed altogether can be much cheaper and if done correctly by a professional may actually improve the performance of the vehicle.
Here at DPF-Solutions we have been removing DPFs for many years and we are definitely one of UK’s leading specialists in this field.
If your vehicle is exhibiting the following symptoms, chances are that the DPF needs to be removed or replaced:
- Lack of power/No throttle response
- Poor fuel consumption
- Particulate Filter light on the dashboard
- Difficult to start or not start at all
- Limp Mode – restricted performance beyond a certain rev range
A blocked DPF can also lead to a dangerous build-up of back pressure in the exhaust which can then lead to other serious problems.
If you choose to have one of our professionals remove the DPF on your vehicle you will notice:
- An immediate increase in power and throttle response.
- Better Fuel Economy
- No more Limp Mode
- No more warning lights
And you may also benefit from longer life expectancy of the Turbo Charger, Engine, and Injectors.
Not only this but DPF-Solution also offers a Smoke Correction service (as far as we are aware, we are the only UK firm to offer this service when removing the DPF) which means we will recalibrate the injectors on the vehicle so they release fewer emissions and guarantee an MOT pass!
